u03a1 Guidance - PLEASE READ
Dear Class,
Overview of Assignment
Capella has provided detailed instructions for u03a1: The Biopsychosocial Assessment. Here are some highlights.
You will not be writing a conventional paper. You will simply complete the activity based on one of the six cases provided, save your results, and upload that file for grading. As always, consult the scoring rubric to assure you are covering everything.
Some of the scoring criteria require providing scholarly support to achieve a distinguished rating. That means a citation and a reference to accompany it. Do not include a reference list if you have not cited sources.
You will need to add information that is fictional because the case study will not provide you with enough detailed information to complete the assessment. You will upload your media answers (assessment information) into the Week 3 assignment.
About the Biopsychosocial Form
Some of you have experience with biopsychosocial assessments. If you don’t, that is fine. Here are some reminders to get you started with confidence.
A version of the biopsychosocial interview form is used in almost every clinical setting. In real life, they don't include citations and references.
It is intended to start a conversation with the client. It is not a form you give a client to fill out themselves. It is not a simple checklist.
In real life, the clinician asks questions about each of the sections. Example, for the section on special circumstances or events in childhood or adolescence, you might ask, “Was there anything special or unusual that happened in your childhood that stands out to you?”
You should document thoroughly enough that someone else picking up the form will have a reasonably clear idea of what’s going on with the client. For example: If an adult client reports having no children, is that by choice, unwanted circumstance?
You'll notice that the last part of the form is about the ASAM Criteria and it's based on the 3rd edition. If you want to complete it that way, that is okay. However, you may find it more worthwhile to complete that section based on the 4th ed. The 4th ed. criteria appear in the course announcement posted July 7. I'll list them here:
1. Intoxication, Withdrawal, and Addiction Medications 2. Biomedical Conditions 3. Psychiatric and Cognitive Conditions 4. Substance Use Related Risks 5. Recovery Environment Interactions 6. Person Centered Considerations
