Since experiencing a car accident 2 months ago, Emily has been feeling depressed. Her energy levels are low, and she is tired all the time. She has lost interest in the things she usually enjoys, like baking, walking her dog, and hanging out with her friends. She feels extremely guilty, angry, and sad at the same time. She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and prescribed Prozac, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Based on your understanding of the content of this chapter, what could be happening in Emily’s body that is linked to her symptoms of depression? How are Emily’s brain, biology, and behavior linked?
