Psychology Question

This course provides a foundational exploration of organizational leadership studies including definitions, theory, concepts, and practices. Students will examine the history of leadership thought and understand how leadership theory has evolved over time. Students will synthesize key concepts of effective leadership that enhance the organization, while assessing the strengths and weaknesses of contemporary leadership theory. Students will enhance their academic writing by applying their research to synthesize logical arguments through critical thinking and writing expected at the graduate level.

Annotated Bibliography

  • Provide a written annotated bibliography with at least 5 new (new to you and related to your general line of research and this course) journal article citations from reputable journals using the PBA Library Database.
  • Articles should be no more than 10 years old and should not have been used in previous courses.
  • The intent is to add to your individual body of research and to continue to encourage progression to the culminating Research Thesis (Action Research Project for legacy program leadership majors)

Draft Research Paper

  • The assignment requires students to demonstrate their understanding of the research thread they have chosen.
  • Students will be asked to communicate their intended focus of study during week 3, to receive approval and feedback.
  • The draft research paper should be a 6-9 pages in length and include at least 4 related and current (within 10 years) journal article citations.
  • Do not use many direct quotes in any papers as this is not preferred in APA academic writing.
  • Journal articles should be acquired by using the PBA University Library Database.
  • This stage of your research should demonstrate an understanding of the problem, the relevant perspectives and debates surrounding the problem and found in academic journals or academic books (not textbooks or popular press) and should demonstrate what further research you need to conduct to draw conclusions in your Final Research Paper submission.

Academic Graduate Level Sources

Note, as a graduate course, it is expected that you will cite several sources from the original source. This means your textbooks are not an appropriate reference in graduate level research. The best sources can be found through peer reviewed journal articles that you can access via the PBA Library Databases. Most textbooks provide the original source, however, beware that many textbooks are outdated as the current research changes rapidly in the social sciences. Therefore, try to focus on journal articles published in the past 10 years. The more recent normally the better depending on your research, arguments, claims, and conclusions. Remember that journal articles are the means of communication between scholars in the field. They are ongoing conversations and debates. There is also information presented in textbooks that has been debunked and the textbook manufacturers have not caught up with the current research (even if it is a “new” addition), so beware.
