principles of psychology

Overview

PART ONE: CHECK-IN

Reflect on feelings you had when you first reached the campus and began this course.

Please take a moment to reflect on how the course is progressing for you. What do you feel is lacking or slacking? What has been the most beneficial for you?

REFLECTION (One paragraph--at least 8 sentences)

What have you learned and observed about Psychology thus far?

(Do not just give a list of concepts or terms. What would you explain to someone about the course?)

PART TWO

This week we will be using an Online Experiment and Demonstration program set up by APA (American Psychological Association). This program will give you an opportunity to manipulate some items to perform experiments and demonstrations to grasp a fuller understanding of some of the tools and processes used in the field. You do not have to email me their report, it doesn't give a detailed report with an results at this moment. Just complete the exercise according to the instructions and report back analyzing some of the concepts from Chapter 4 Sensation and Perception. See attachment for specific Instructions.

REPORT:

Include Introduction with purpose of the Assignment and the experiments

Include Conclusion—what did you learn about sensations and perceptions after testing your senses of taste, smell, and see. Discuss concepts from text (sensation, perception, Gestalt principles, bottom-up and top-down processing, cognitive misers (Chapter 1), and selective attention).

As you can see, two are online and one you will be setting up and conducting on yourself. Please follow the instructions to complete each one to report on your response and reaction to the experience. This Assignment is called Online Experiment I because you will be completing at least 3 online experiments on APA this semester. You can use that as your title.

There are three Experiments/Demonstrations you will be conducting this week:

1. Online Experiment Line Motion (under Sensation & Perceptions)

2. Online Demonstration Visual Illusions (under Sensation & Perception)

3. Experiment Senses and Taste (this is an Experiment we conducted in class)

You will have to register for APA Experiments

On the left side of the page, the Dashboard will list Experiments and Demonstrations for you to click for each exercise. Some of the exercises can be long, so give yourself some time to complete these. You do not have to do all three at the same time, they just all need to be in the same document for Reporting.

For the individual Experiment that we conducted in class, using either flavored candies (skittles, or sweet tarts mini chews work great), or flavored snack. See attachment for further reflection on these Experiments/Demonstrations.
