Reaction Paper
Our reading and reflection this week is on developmental issues, societal influence, cultural influence and spirituality in the treatment of trauma. For the first reflection paper, consider how these factors may influence your work with clients in therapy--both the process and outcomes of treatment. What do you do when your experiences are "different" from those of your clients and how do you resolve this in your approach to treatment? Be sure to address the concept of spiritual bypassing. How do you know when spirituality is a "strength" in therapy and not an obstacle to the resolution of psychological trauma?
Reaction Papers: Effective counseling involves being able to reflect upon one’s personal experiences and how these experiences impact or inform one’s approach to therapy. Counselors often have “blind spots” based on personal experiences / biases that can hinder their growth in the profession. Papers will be a minimum of 5 pages (including title page and reference list) addressing the topic provided by the instructor. Papers must be written in APA 7th Edition style. Students should include at least three (3) outside resources to support their writing in the papers. Each course requirement or assignment will be scored according to a rubric provided in class. Scores will then be converted to letter grades.
