Psychology Question

Overview

In this assignment, you will explore the process of a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) using a case study.

Steps to complete this assignment:

1. Review the Case Study Information

Begin by reading through the provided Case study about Lee, a 13-year-old student in a middle school functional academics program. Pay close attention to the details about Lee’s behaviors, triggers (antecedents), and the consequences in his environment.

2. Develop Your Interview Questions

Imagine you are the BCBA conducting the FBA. Write down at least 6 questions you would ask the staff members (teacher and instructional assistants) to better understand Lee’s behavior. Your questions might focus on:

  • Triggers or situations that seem to lead to the behavior.
  • How staff members typically respond when the behaviors occur.
  • Patterns or changes observed over time.

3. Analyze the Observational Data

  • Using the observational data provided, answer these questions:
  • What is the antecedent (what happens before) for each maladaptive behavior?
  • What is the consequence (what happens after) for each maladaptive behavior?

Based on the data, what is the hypothesized function (purpose) of each behavior?

4. Propose Replacement Behaviors

  • Suggest a function-based replacement behavior for one or more of Lee’s maladaptive behaviors.

5. Reflect on the Process

Write a brief reflection addressing the following:

  • What did you learn from completing this case study?
  • What questions or concerns do you still have about the FBA process?
