Q1: What is the role of ANGER in AGGRESSION and/or VIOLENCE. Why is ANGER not the same as AGGRESSION, and Why is AGGRESSION not the same as VIOLENCE?
Q2: There is a perspective in the social sciences called the nature/nurture debate. Those who believe in nature argue that all behavior (including aggressive behavior) is a result of “nature” (i.e., your genes, hormones, brain structure, etc.) Those who believe in nurture argue that aggressive and violent behavior is learned through exposure to others (i.e., that the behavior is transmitted to the individual by others, usually a care-giver or family member). Based on the information we have been using in the class so far and any other information you can bring in from your other classes or outside reading you may have done, which side do you come down on and why?
Q3: Why do some people have better control over their anger, aggression, and violence than others? What is ECF and what is its role in guiding aggression? What does the ability to delay gratification have to do with it?
Q4: What is the role of a person's morals in controlling aggression or violence? How do we adopt morals? Why are morals different from one culture to another or even from one neighborhood to another?
Q5: What does the research of brain researchers tell us abut the heretibility of violence behavior and crime? Use examples from class and assignments.
Q6: Why would being blocked from legitimate opportunities for economic advancement, employment, and justice make people more aggressive or more likely to commit crime? Why wouldn't they make people less likely to do so?
