PART TWO
1. In this assignment, we will collectively create a playlist that explores the theme of Poetry and Song, as discussed in the chapter from Education by Ellen G. White. Along with your selected songs, you will choose a poem and scripture that accompany the music and express its deeper meaning. The goal is to explore how poetry, song, and scripture intertwine to enhance our spiritual understanding and connection with God.
- Select Songs for the Playlist:
- Choose 2 songs (from any genre, but preferably spiritual or Christian music) that you believe embody the theme of Poetry and Song as discussed in Ellen White’s chapter. These songs should either have poetic lyrics, be based on scripture, or evoke a deep spiritual connection that you think aligns with the concepts from the chapter.
- Include a Poem to Accompany the Playlist:
- Along with each song, select or write one poem (it can be biblical or original) that reflects the spirit of the song. You may choose a poem from scripture, like Psalm 23, or write a short reflection inspired by the lyrics of the song.
- Add a Scripture:
- Include one scripture passage that resonates with each song or poem. This can be directly referenced in the song or related to the themes of praise, worship, thanksgiving, or prayer.
- Explanation:
- For each song you choose, provide a short explanation (2-3 sentences) for why you selected that particular song. How does it reflect the theme of poetry and song from Education? What spiritual message does it communicate to you? How does the scripture tie into the song and poem
Collaborative Aspect:
- Share Your Playlist:
Create a shared playlist (using platforms like Spotify, YouTube, or Apple Music) and share it with the class. If a song is unavailable on the chosen platform, share the song title and artist along with the link to the lyrics or a performance video. - Post in the Forum:
Post your playlist link along with the accompanying poems, scriptures, and explanations to the Google slides link provided. Be sure to interact with your classmates by commenting on 3 of their selections and sharing your thoughts about their choices.Example Submission:
- Song: "How Great Thou Art" – Carrie Underwood
- Poem: "O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, Consider all the works Thy hands have made..." (This is part of the hymn itself.)
- Scripture: Psalm 104:1-2 – "Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You are very great; You are clothed with honor and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out the heavens like a curtain."
- Why I Chose It: This song powerfully praises God for His greatness and majesty. I chose it because it connects with the theme of worship and awe expressed in poetry and song, as described in Ellen White’s writing. The scripture complements the song by emphasizing God's splendor and glory.
- Song: "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)" – Matt Redman
- Poem: "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits..." (Psalm 103:2)
- Scripture: Psalm 103:1-5 – "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits..."
- Why I Chose It: This song is a powerful reminder of God’s goodness and mercy, aligning with the themes of gratitude and worship in poetry and song. It highlights how we should respond to God’s faithfulness, just as the Psalms often do.
