Students: You can now upload response papers for Lecture 9, Evolutionary Psychology. As I noted, certain evolutionary markers appear correlated with "attractiveness." That said, economic systems and male dominance and subjugation of women elaborate on and interact with these theorized innate variables to produce the phenomena we discussed in class re. male sexual opportunism and need for paternity certainty and female predisposition toward provision and security. Monetized sexual relationships, regardless of the ethics, may therefore may be an extension of these essential variables as well as the one manufactured and transmitted culturally. I would therefore submit that ultimately it is an individual decision influenced by multiple internal and external variables. My assessment is that mutual attraction and desire that are not monetized lend themselves to a healthier and more complete intimate relationship upon which a coupling and family life (if sought), are more probable. At the end of the day, if I can quote the Isley Brothers, "it's your thing, you do what you want to do/I can't tell you who to sock it to." To that I would only add, just do it safely and maintain dignity. - some extra instructions
