Overview
DQ 6 will help us comprehend how psychological theories can be applied to understand real-world events and apply the knowledge from Chapter 10 of our textbook and lecture to analyze recent news stories of events.
Select a news story of an event from the past year that is related to prejudice or discrimination. Make sure that the event you choose is from an actual news source, not an editorial, blog, social media posting, human interest story, movie discussion, or sports article.
Firstly, provide a summary of the event.
Next, identify and thoroughly describe the relevant theory to this event (for example: realistic group threat theory) chosen from Chapter 10.
Lastly, explain and link how this theory can be used to interpret and understand the selected news event.
Please create a post with your summaries and explanation, following these criteria:
- Your post should be 3-4 paragraphs long, minimum.
- Cite and link the news article you've chosen.
- The news event should have occurred within the last year.
- Make sure your chosen event is a news article of at least a page in length.
Do not forget to respond to at least two of your peer's posts, linking their discussion to your comments, and possibly presenting a different theory that could potentially explain the event they described.
