Overview
The professional practice interview assignment is intended to assist in the transition from graduate school to professional practice. Each student will identify an area of professional interest to research and interview licensed professionals working in fields related to their identified interests. Students are to inquire about professional development, clinical skills, professional ethics, and navigating the profession (suggestion of professional themes to cover will be reviewed in class). Each interview should be approximately 20 to 30 minutes. It is suggested that students prepare at least 10 questions for their interview. The project consists of four components: (1) Research review of a specific area of interest and a reference sheet for peers (2) Conduct two professional interviews (3) Provide a highlight of project presentation (4) turn in final slide presentation in digital campus. 1) Research Review: Provide a brief review of your research review related to your area of interest. You are required to include a reference sheet for your peers that includes resources your classmates can utilize should they be interested in finding out more information on the presented topic. Please include a variety of resources (e.g., journal articles, books, websites). The reference sheet may be uploaded to class chat during your presentation unless otherwise instructed. 2) Professional Interviews: Each student is to create interview questions and conduct two interviews with licensed professionals in the students specific area of professional interest. 3) Brief Professional Presentation: Present interview highlights in class week 8. Each student will present for 5-7 minutes, with Q&A, depending on the number of students in the class. Instructors may suggest pre recording highlights to be shown in class. 4) Final Professional Powerpoint Presentation: Each student is to provide a Google Slide/powerpoint to include the following: • Each presentation should summarize the main premise(s) and important information from each interview (e.g., pro/cons of speciality, lessons learned,). Discuss how information from these interviews would impact your practice as a Mental Health professional (i.e. LMFT/LPCC) and detail specific ways in which you will apply this information to your future as a professional. Include a brief review of research and include your research reference sheet.
