Overview
first :
A statement describing your immediate and long-term career and life goals, including an explanation of why these goals are appropriate in terms of your knowledge, skills, characteristics, values, and experiences. ill attach my draft of goal statement :
example of how to it should be: I am currently enrolled in my last semester at Governors State University. Unfortunately my career goals are still a little blurry. After meeting with career services and completing a Strong Interest Inventory Profile and Interpretive Report, I became of a career option that I was not completely aware of. The results indicated that I had a high conventional Interest level and an interest in athletics. Therefore, it reminded me of the athletic director in my high school. However, I would not apply to be the athletic director of a high school, I will start applying to jobs to become an athletic directors assistant, because I am qualified for that job. Another goal of mine is to be a girl’s high school basketball coach.
I am a very organized, responsible, detail oriented, and a diverse, flexible person. I believe these qualities would make me a good athletic director assistant. During my junior and senior year of high school, I would volunteer during study hall to help the advising center file papers, schedule student appointments, and organize the mail that came in. I loved working with people, doing busy work, and organizing. That’s is why I think I would be good at an office job. However, I wish to work in an office as an athletic director assistant, because I can relate to athletes. I grew up as an athlete and those experiences make me want to work with them. In order to become an athletic director assistant, I will have not have to complete any certification test. I will only have to pass the training the institution will provide. Another goal of mine is to become a high school girl’s basketball coach. I have this interest, because when I began playing basketball competitively in fifth grade, I saw the impact that my coaches had on me as a player and I want to do the same thing. My life has felt incomplete ever since I had to give up the sport and I believe that coaching will make my life complete again. I think I qualify as a good basketball coach, because I am competitive, athletic, hardworking, educated, all or nothing type of person and experienced. In order to become a high school girl basketball coach there is a test of certification I need to pass an IHSA coaching certification program. You do not need to buy any supplementary materials in order to achieve this certification. The program will include courses to help you pass the exam.
These goals are appropriate for my personal life. I will work from eight o’clock in the morning till four o’clock as an athletic director assistant. During the months of September October, November, December, January, and February I will have to stay at school till seven o’clock coaching. I will have no trouble maintaining the relationship I have with my boyfriend of six years with this time schedule. He works as a credit financial analyst at Standard Bank and he goes to work from 8am till 6:30pm Monday through Friday. So, we will both be getting home around the same time and we will both have weekends off. As for starting a family, we do not have a desire to have children.
By the end of summer 2015, I will have completed a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I believe, based on all the skills and knowledge I had received over the course of my undergraduate psychology experience, I will be able to understand the needs and behaviors of the coworkers, players, and clients I will be working with.
second thing you need to do : Use the same templates as provided for the rough drafts and combine into a single document to submit Final Draft of Goals ill send you example :
I realize that my true passion in life is pursuing a degree in art therapy. I know this because of volunteer work I have done with a couple art therapists as well as having a profound interest in the field of psychology and art. Every class and job I have taken has brought more solidarity to my decision of pursuing this career path.
My long-term goals include establishing myself as an art therapist working with individuals in a facility. Whether it be in a school, rehab center, or hospital setting I want to help these individuals learn the skills they may be lacking or need extra help with to aid in their development process. My life goals impact my career goals in that when I decide to settle down and have a family I will have the income to support my family. I also won’t have the sole responsibility of running my own practice so if I have to take a leave my patients will have someone the can be referred to while I’m gone.
Wherever I am accepted I plan to use the knowledge I have gained in my previous art and psychology courses to aid in my concentration of art therapy, specifically child development. This area of study in particular is helpful because ideally I would like to work in Special Education. I know I would like to work with this population because I have worked as a para educator in special education for three years now and I have volunteered with this demographic since I was about 10 years old. Since I joined the coop about three years ago I felt that my calling has been realized, along with volunteering with an art therapist during summer school sessions for this population. I’ve learned that I have many skills that had gone unnoticed until I began volunteering and working with these individuals. I learned that I am very patient, understanding, creative and sympathetic. I also push people to become the best they can without pushing to hard. I know that as an art therapist I can help these individuals in a more meaningful and creative way. I can aid them more in their emotional as well as physical development with various expressive outlets and means of communicating.
My short-term goals include applying for Master’s programs at Mount Mary University and Adler School of Professional Psychology. I have had my eye on Mount Mary University since my undergraduate. This program thus far has been the most fitting for me because I have visited the campus on tours as well as talked to academic advisors in the program. What I like most about the program is their program objectives: Develop strong interpersonal and communication skills, understanding yourself, working together with others, and making a difference. These objectives are utilized through learning to listen actively, respond empathetically, expressing yourself and learning about others through art making, poetic response, movement and music. Reflecting and connecting to your intuition and creativity along with exploring culture and diversity through the arts and see the world through multiple viewpoints demonstrates two of the objectives being employed. Finally sharing your passion for helping and your commitment to social justice demonstrates the last of the objectives in action. Their website goes into more detail about each but each of these objectives combine to make a well-rounded art therapist graduate.
I also have been looking at Adler School of Professional Psychology because of its notable reputation for the field of psychology and its close proximity to my home. What sets them apart from the other schools in Illinois who offer this program is their Adlerian viewpoint of understanding a person within their own social context. This school in contrast to Mount Mary focuses more on the psychological aspect of the field rather than art. This program also focuses like Mount Mary on the importance of community involvement and social change. The university carries this out by connecting students with partnerships with Adler Community Health Services and the training relationships, which support delivery of students’ Community Service Practica. These connections provide students with experience training in socially responsible practice and to advance social justice within those communities.
Both schools have promise for helping me achieving my degree in art therapy. I know this because of the research I have put together. I have applied to both and am confident that in either one I choose, my long-term life and career goals will be met. ill attach you my Draft of Goals
