Assignment Overview
This is the final step of your semester-long project, where you will bring together your work
from Parts 1 and 2, refine your diagnosis, and evaluate how accurately your chosen media
portrayed mental health and psychological disorders. You will take on the role of both a
clinician (reviewing your diagnostic reasoning) and a media critic (evaluating the accuracy
of the representation).
Before writing, revisit your Part 2 feedback and make note of anything you may have
missed, misunderstood, or opportunities for more depth in your analysis. This insight
should inform your final diagnosis and strengthen your critique of how the media handled
the portrayal.
Your final reflection should demonstrate three things:
1. How your understanding of your character and diagnosis evolved since Part 1.
2. How accurately (or inaccurately) the media portrayed your chosen disorder.
3. Your awareness of limitations, assumptions, and real-world implications.
Writing Guidance
Your paper should include the following:
1. Final Diagnosis
State the diagnosis you now believe most closely fits your character. It is okay if the
portrayal did not provide enough information for your character to meet full criteria of the
disorder. Based on your analysis what would be the best fit? If your understanding has
changed since Part 2, explain why. It is okay if this information restates your summary from
part 2.
2. Media Portrayal Critique (Central focus)
This is the central focus of Part 3 and should take up the most space in your reflection.
Analyze how your character’s mental health, symptoms or disorder was portrayed in the
media by discussing:

this disorder?
Tip: You may briefly reference course concepts (e.g., the 4 D’s, the biopsychosocial
model, or symptom clusters) to strengthen your critique, but avoid writing another
diagnostic report or feeling the need to cite your reasoning. This is all about your own
interpretation and reflection.
3. Limitations of the portrayal
Briefly explain the challenges of diagnosing fictional characters:
4. Growth & Reflection
Reflect on how your understanding evolved throughout the project:
mental health overall?
