Overview
In preparation for this assignment, consider a client or a client population that you are working with, have worked with, or would like to work with. Identify two assessment measures validated for your selected client/client population that may help in providing more information about the client’s/client population’s issues.
- Describe the demographic background of your selected client/population and their issues.
- Provide your rationale for selecting the two different measures including the relevant purpose of these measures for your client, their psychometric properties (reliability and validity, appropriate norms, ease of administering and scoring, use with select populations based on age, gender, race, sexual orientation etc.)
- Explain the ways you would have utilized these measure in your counseling sessions with your client.
- Identify the strengths and limitations of your selected measures and any reason for caution in interpreting the scores.
For this weeks assignment, I selected the demographic of adult clients who have experienced a trauma, including sexual assault, domestic violence, and community violence.
For the validated assessment measures, I have selected PTSD Checklist for DSM 5 (PCL-5) and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9).
I believe these are both well validated assessment measures that were designed to rule out symptoms associated with PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc. which are prevalent in trauma populations. These measures are frequently used in clinical settings with this demographic, and can provide reliable information about the clients trauma related symptoms and overall needs.
