For this assignment, I need you to act like you visited a police officer and went on a ride along with them in the car to get to know them. Prepare a 750-1,000- word reflection on your Ride Along experience in which you address the following:
- Describe your ride along experience; however, please maintain any confidentiality expectations that were communicated by the officer or department. As a part of your description be sure to address the following questions:
o How long were you in the patrol car?
o Did you ride along with a patrol officer or supervisor? Why?
o Did the officer or supervisor ask you any questions that made your feel uncomfortable? If so, what and why did it make you feel uncomfortable?
- Explain how your experience reinforced or changed your perspective on law enforcement officers.
- Use specific examples from your ride along to evaluate the role of first responders and how this role leads to unique job stressors.
- Explain issues inherent to providing counseling to emergency response personnel using specific examples and insight from your ride along.
- Describe additional insight that the experience provided you about effectively counseling emergency response personnel, including the influence of law enforcement culture and community bias.
