Description: Given the diverse client population at ECWS, Inc., it is important for the counselor to be familiar with a wide range of assessment strategies and options. During your last staff meeting your supervisor asked you to become an expert on an assessment strategyof your choice. To do so you are asked to do the following:
*NOTE:YOU DO NOT NEED TO OBTAIN An ACTUAL COPY OF THE ASSESSMENT OR SCREENER THAT YOU CHOOSE. THE GOAL IS TO USE THE REFERENCE MANUAL YOU HAVE TO REVIEW AND MAKE YOUR EVALUATIONS.
Assignment Steps:
- Select a construct and date to present. The construct should be something that you are interested in (i.e. eating disorder in men, social connection, depression, etc.). You cannot present on an assessment that is covered in the course material or course lectures..
- Create an assessment question. ( What is the best method of assessing….in….?) construct must be for adult population.
- Choose only one assessment that you think best answered the question you created. ( even if there is limitations this is ok all assessments have some limitations).
- Find and review assessment strategies and details (e.g. protocols, test details, etc. recent research findings, etc.). You can use your textbook, the NU library, online databases,(e.g. academic search complete, PsycINFO, PsychTEST, mental measurement yearbook, test development sites), testing manuals, scientific articles discussing the instruments, other testing details. You can also contact the authors, and/or contact test publisher(s) to find information.
- Review the literature related to the assessment of choice You can use the rubric to assist with this. Review the original development article if you can. Also peer-reviewed articles are a great resource for information on psychometric details you may need. Other articles can help with your rationale for use, purpose or recommendations for future research/clinical practice. You should have at minimum 3-5 references. If there is limited literature, please highlight that as part of your review and make recommendations for future research and practice in your rationale.
- Create a handout and 10-minute slide deck. The handout will be submitted via announcement comment that will be provided by your instructor. The 10-minute slide deck will be presented on your sign-up date. Both your handout and slide deck should be submitted under assignment tab for final grade via Turnitin. Your handout should be turned in the date that you present. Handout can have additional details, links, trainings, other suggested assessments. This is for your peers so have fun making this resource. The slide deck is a brief summary of the assessment. Use the template to assist with details to add in your deck.
- After Overview presentation: there may be a brief space for feedback and questions. You can elicit questions from your peers and facilitate a discussion about the assessment or respond to questions provided to your best ability.
NOTE: The assessment itself or the research reviewing the assessment need to be written within the past 10 years. If the assessment was created with in the past 10 years, then you are good, but still need to review additional research for your project to support clinical use. If the assessment is older than 10 years you will need to make sure that the additional research, you review has been published in the past 10 years. If this condition is not met, then your project may not be accepted or may face significant point deductions. Please consult with your instructor if you have any questions/concerns about this. This consult should happen 1:1 not during live class time.
Method of Evaluation: Observation of presentation, use of Rubric
Student Performance Evaluation Criteria and Procedures: This is a signature project (KPI).
