Overview
INTRODUCTION:
In earlier assessments, you wrote your literature review and hypothesis statements, and described the research design for your study. You also analyzed the provided data.
The final research report is a comprehensive record incorporating everything you accomplished in this research project. The final part of the report provides a way for you to document and communicate the research findings, implications for practice, and conclusions of the study. It can be helpful for informing future research projects, or a wider audience of readers in the future.
PREPARATION:
Review the following document for tips and also an overview of how the assessments in this course fit together:
- Overview of the Research Project and Report [PDF].
INSTRUCTIONS:
For this final assessment, put together all of the sections you have worked on throughout the course into the Final Research Report Template [DOCX] to form your final research report.
These sections of your template have already been completed—but just re-review them and ensure that you have updated them based on instructor feedback:
- Enter your revised literature review. A distinguished report will incorporate feedback given from previous assessments.
- Enter your revised method section. Again, a distinguished report will incorporate feedback given from previous assessments.
- Enter your data analysis.
Then complete the following in your template:
- In your discussion section:
- Interpret the results of your study.
- Explain how these results compare to what you expected and to other research studies. For a distinguished report, be sure to refer to articles used in your literature review, or additional articles beyond your literature review, to compare. Provide appropriate citations.
- Describe the generalizability of the research findings.
- Explain the implications of your findings for practice (see the Overview of the Research Project and Report [PDF] for ideas).
- Describe two potential future directions of the study, and describe one idea for a future qualitative study and one for a future quantitative study. A distinguished report will include a discussion of concepts related to reliability and validity in future studies.
- Include three suggestions for ethical research for your future study. A distinguished report will support this with illustrations and scholarly references.
- Provide a brief summary of the key points and end with your conclusions.
- Include APA style references for every source cited.
Remember to consult the Final Research Report scoring guide to make sure you cover all that will be assessed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Your assessment should also meet the following requirements:
- Written communication: Written communication is in professional style with correct grammar, usage, and mechanics.
- APA formatting: References and citations are formatted according to APA style and formatting.
- Length: 2–3 typed, double-spaced pages for this section. Entire research report paper should be 8–10 pages.
- Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

- Chapter 6, “Non-Experimental Research.”
- Read the section on non-experimental correlation research.
- This chapter introduces correlational, longitudinal, and qualitative research, highlighting how qualitative designs enrich psychological science. Read the rest of the chapter you haven't yet read, in particular, the part with the on emphasis qualitative research.

- Chapter 11, “Presenting Your Research.”
- This chapter equips you with the tools to write and present your research effectively and demystifies different presentation formats—like conference posters and oral talks—encouraging professional engagement in the broader psychological community.

- Statistical Tests.
- Complete this media to review the different types of tests of significance depending on the number of the sample.
We draw conclusions to give meaning to data. This is also known as interpretation and making inferences. It's not enough to run a statistical data analysis of your results. You also need to interpret the results in relationship to other research. For example, were your statistical results and findings what you expected? Were they similar to or different from the results of similar studies done by other researchers?
- Analytic Stage of Thinking.
- Read the information on the element of thought in the “Interpretation & Inference” section in this Campus page.
- Drawing Inferences and Making Conclusions reading list.
- Chapter 9 of Meltzoff and Cooper's 2018 text can provide guidance for drawing inferences and conclusions.
For the final section of your research report, consider how researchers often describe the way their results can inform practical applications or inspire future studies. To see examples of how to frame your ideas for future research, review the discussion and future research sections of one of the peer-reviewed articles provided in this course.
