Set Up Your Debate With AI Start a new chat with a generative AI program. You may use ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, or a similar tool. Begin your debate by copying and pasting the instructions below into the AI chat. Please use this exact wording: “I am working on an assignment for a psychology class. I will give you a short research scenario. After you read it, I want you to debate the ethical issues from the research scenario with me. You will take the position that the research study is NOT ethically acceptable. I will take the position that the study IS ethically acceptable. In each turn, respond to my points and explain your reasoning clearly.” After you paste the instructions, copy and paste the dilemma you chose. Once the AI responds, begin typing your reply. You and the AI are having a back-and-forth debate, similar to texting with another person. Each message counts as one turn: AI message = 1 turn, Your message = 1 turn. You must complete at least 6 turns total and no more than 10. Your goal is not to win the debate. Your goal is to think carefully about research ethics.
