Overview
This week, as we explore some of the barriers to success, we also would like to introduce you to the term cultural competence, which is defined as one's ability to interact with people from belief systems outside of our own by way of acknowledging and understanding the differences that create unity among us (DeAngelis, 2015, p. 64). Here at Capella, you have the opportunity to interact with learners from all over the world, from different cultures, genders, ages, and abilities. This diverse atmosphere gives you the opportunity to learn from our similarities and respect our differences. Remember, the goal is to foster an inclusive learning environment where everyone is free to express themselves and to be successful.
What did you learn this week that grabbed your attention, or what caused you to think more about potential barriers to success and who you are as a multicultural practitioner-scholar? This week, reflect on the concepts from both the scholar-practitioner and practitioner-scholar models and discuss potential barriers to success such as stereotyping and coping. When you are finished, create a post using a minimum of 50 words and discuss your experiences. Your goal is to enthusiastically share something you've learned with your peers, apply it to real life, and make your post informative, concise, and engaging to your readers. Be creative!
