Correlation and Third Variables
What is this assignment about?
You must analyze a correlational study and show that correlation does NOT mean causation by identifying possible third variables.
PART 1 (NO AI ALLOWED – VERY IMPORTANT)
- Choose one study from the list.
- Create 3 third variables on your own.
-
For each one:

- Open a new chat with an AI tool (ChatGPT, etc.).
- Paste your chosen study.
- Ask the AI for 2 new third variables (different from yours).

- Say if it is realistic or not
- Explain in 2–3 sentences each
PART 3 – FINAL REFLECTION (NO AI)
Answer in 1–2 sentences each:
- Difference between correlation and causation
- Your strongest third variable and why
- Were AI variables stronger or weaker?
- Why third variables are important in research
