Verbal Behavior and Problems in Language
Verbal behavior is similar to the other types of behavior in that there is a relationship between form and function. You analyzed this relationship when determining the method of reducing behavior in Module 2. The challenge of understanding verbal behavior is the complexity of language.
In this Discussion, you will explore the impact of B. F. Skinner’s research of verbal behavior on the methods used to approach problems in language and language development.
To Prepare
- Review the Learning Resources for this week, including the required weekly media program, to gain an understanding of verbal behavior and problems with language. Note: It is critical for you to review the media for this week prior to completing this Discussion.
- Post an explanation on how Skinner’s approach to verbal behavior changes how clinicians and researchers approach the amelioration of problems in language. Give an example when mand training and tact training would be appropriate.
