Psychology Question

Psychology Question

part 1. What does it mean when you find a statistically significant difference? Locate a scholarly journal article focused on a psychology topic of interest from the last 2 years that uses a t-test to compare the means of two different groups. Did the researcher(s) find a statistically significant difference? What does the t-test reveal about the two groups? Provide the PDF of the article in your post

.part 2 This assignment will utilize the Expriment dataset. Open the dataset to answer the following prompts. Be sure to complete each portion of the prompts and be thorough in your descriptions. Organize your assignment so it is easy to follow and write in complete sentences; use APA style where directed. There are two parts to this assignment.

  • SPSS:

experim.sav

  • Jamovi:

experim.omv

Part I:

  1. Using the “experim” dataset, conduct an independent samples t-test for the following question:
  2. Is there a significant difference in statistics test scores (Dataset variable: “exam”) between students in the Math Skills and Confidence Building classes (Dataset variable: “group”)?
  3. In APA style, report the means, standard deviations, t-statistic, df, and p-value.
  4. Interpret the results. In your interpretation, state if the null hypothesis can be rejected (you don’t typically say this in a results section, but it is good practice for understanding hypothesis testing). Finally, if the result is significant (p<.05).

APA format and interpretation example: Results showed that there is a significant difference between metric sales for games rated “E” for everyone (M = 55.43, SD = 7.91) and the “T” for teen (M = 82.12, SD=7.23), t (351) = 5.87, p = .02);therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected. These results suggest games rated “T” for teens sell more games than those labeled “E” for everyone.

Part II:

  1. Using the “experim” dataset, conduct a dependent (aka paired) samples t-test for the following questions: Is there a difference in clinical depression rating between Time 1 (Dataset variable: “depress1”) and Time 2 (Dataset variable: “depress2”)? Is there a difference in clinical depression rating between Time 1 (Dataset variable: “depress1”) and Time 3 (Dataset variable: “depress3”)?
  2. In APA style, report the means, standard deviations, t-statistic, df, and p-value.
  3. Interpret the results. In your interpretation, state if the null hypothesis can be rejected (you don’t typically say this in a results section but it is good practice for understanding hypothesis testing). Finally, if the result is significant (p<.05).

APA format and interpretation example: Results showed that there is a significant difference between metric sales for games rated “E” from Time Point 1 (M = 55.43, SD = 7.91) to Time Point 2 (M = 82.12, SD = 7.23), t (351) = 5.87, p = .02,); therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected. These results suggest an increase in sales over time.
