In your counseling career, you will likely work with clients of varying ages, with diverse experiences and goals. You will need to be adept at selecting career and vocational strategies that demonstrate awareness, respect, and sensitivity to clients at every stage of their career paths.
In this assessment, you will consider how to work with clients of diverse age groups and interests.
Before completing this assessment:
- Brainstorm career and vocational needs for two of the following age groups:
- Young adulthood (ages 18-24)
- Adulthood (ages 25-65)
- Late adulthood (ages 65 and older)
- Select and research two of the following topics to understand how they may lead to or require a career or vocational transition:
- Career identity
- Work/life balance
- Technology changes/advancements
- Work from home/remote work challenges
- Interpersonal conflicts in the workplace
- Value conflicts in the workplace
- Economic and financial stability
- Other, with instructor approval
- Create a 15-slide presentation in which you compare strategies and interventions for two development/age groups.
Note: The slide count does not include the title or reference list slide.
Develop your presentation as though you will deliver these concepts at a workshop for counselors interested in learning how to assist clients who are making career or vocational transitions.
For your presentation, you should:- Explain the role of the counselor in helping clients make transitions in their careers.
- Summarize 3 to 4 common career and vocational needs for each age group.
- Describe 2 common transitional needs each age group may face in the workplace.
- Recommend at least 2 strategies and interventions to address the transitional needs of each age group.
- Include details to explain how the recommended strategies and interventions will support clients in their career transition.
- Include relevant ethical and cultural considerations for implementing the strategies and interventions.
- Identify at least 2 resources counselors can use to support the career transition needs of each age group. Justify your selections.
Incorporate information from at least 2 to 3 scholarly sources.
Cite each source on a separate reference slide according to APA guidelines.
