Analyze both Theoretical and Assimilative Integration
This is a preview of the instructions for the Theoretical and Assimilative Integration Paper due April 29.
Write a paper (minimum 2000 words) that analyzes both theoretical integration and assimilative integration. (NOTE: You will use one of these integrated approaches in your upcoming PDE in this program.)
- Describe the theoretical integration approach.
- Identify two counseling therapies/models that can be integrated using this approach and explain how and why that can be done.
- Identify two counseling therapies/models that cannot be integrated using this approach and explain why they can't be integrated.
- Describe the assimilative integration approach. In the initial description, include a brief explanation of how the contextualism philosophy supports this integration approach.
- Identify a counseling therapy that could serve as the grounding (core) theory.
- Then, identify two techniques that come from different theories. Explain how these techniques would be integrated into the grounding theory. When explaining how the techniques integrate into the grounding theory, include a brief explanation of how using each technique in the context of the grounding theory alters the technique from how it would be used in the theory which first developed it. See my notes on "The Basics."
- Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of both integration approaches.
You are required to use at least 2 scholarly sources. Use proper APA formatting on paper (including title page), citations, and reference list.
Title Page- (see paper template in first module for example)
Level 1 Heading - Title of Paper
Introduction with thesis statement (remember each paragraph has .5 inch indention)
Level 1 Heading - Theoretical Integration
Description of this approach
Level 2 Heading - Two Approaches That Can Be Integrated
Explanation of how they can be integrated
Level 2 Heading - Two Approaches That Cannot Be Integrated
Explanation of why they cannot be integrated
Level 1 Heading - Assimilative Integration
Description of this approach, including addressing contextualism (see my "The Basics" notes)
Level 2 Heading - Example of Integration
Identify grounding theory and explain why it serves as the grounding theory
Identify first technique and which theory it came from, how it would be integrated into the grounding theory, how doing so alters the technique from how it was originally developed
Identify second technique and which theory it came from, how it would be integrated into the grounding theory, how doing so alters the technique from how it was originally developed
See Note About Level Headings - (if you choose to use Level 3 headings for the following):
Examples of Level 3 Headings if you choose to use:
Grounding Theory
First Technique and Original Theory
Second Technique and Original Theory
Level 1 Heading - Conclusion
Final analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of both integration approaches.
