Create a PowerPoint presentation
NOTE: In academia at the doctoral level, PP slides are usually "plain" like I have uploaded onto Canvas. We use the slides for our bullet points and info- not unnecessary icons and pics, moving font, etc. It is okay to use bar graphs, pie chart and similar graphs to show statistics. This is different than when we present to the public for a conference and we add things to our slides to make them interesting and "pop" to the audience.
Your speech is like you would do if you were presenting to a group. However, you are not just reading the slide but talking about the information/topic on the slide. This may require some practice before you upload the finalized product.
Following are instructions for the Presentation assignment due by Wednesday, April 29. If you have ANY questions, please reach out to me to discuss - Dr. BT
You will be asked to upload Zoom recording or a link to the recording (e.g., Google drive) of your presentation. Record yourself presenting the information covered in your slides. This can be easily accomplished in Zoom and it visually shows you as the speaker. If you have questions about how to do this, please let me know.
Presentation on Developmental Issues in an Area of Specialization
This assignment is to identify a developmental issue in an area of specialization for a TARGET POPULATION, not a specific client.
Review " Application to Areas of Specialization" posted on Canvas for ideas.
Example: My developmental issue and target population:
Treating childhood sexual abuse trauma in adult females. My presentation would be on the development and presentations of trauma symptoms. I would discuss issues these woman may have had in childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and later in life. I would also briefly discuss prevention, early intervention, and recommended treatments.
Suggested headings (as apply to your specific topic) are:
- Introduction - of your developmental issue and target population - such as "childhood sexual abuse trauma in adult females"
- Statistics/Impact - Citation/Reference? See PP I posted on Canvas to show you how to display a citation on PP and you will have a References slide at the end.
- Symptoms - Citation/Reference?
- Cultural Factors and/or Gender Differences- Citation/Reference?
Where does your developmental issue start? childhood, adolescence, adulthood? Ex - childhood sexual abuse trauma in adult females
5. Issue in Childhood (if relevant) - I would discuss issues they had in childhood since I am talking about childhood sexual abuse. You may have a citation/reference in these slides.
6. Issue in Adolescence (if relevant) - Talking about childhood sexual abuse, I would discuss any issues they had in adolescence.
7. Issue in Young Adulthood - I would discuss any issues they may have in young adulthood.
8. Issue in Middle Adulthood - I would discuss any issues they may have in middle adulthood.
9. Issue in Later Life - I would discuss any issues they may have later in life.
Note: If your developmental issues starts as a young adult, you can start with Issue in Young Adulthood. If there were no earlier developmental issues, you can also point out that there were no known issues in childhood or adolescence - probably in the beginning age issue slide.
10. Risk Factors / Protective Factors - Risk factors are associated with a higher likelihood of negative outcomes. Protective factors help to reduce a risk factor's impact and lower the likelihood of negative outcomes. Citation/Reference?
11. Early Intervention - Citation/Reference?
12. Recommended Treatments - Citation/Reference?
13. References
