HUS4722 Research Methods

The purpose of each Module Assignment is to help you create your Capstone Project APA Research Paper in phases. Each time you are given an Assignment, you will add the content of that assignment to your existing APA paper and upload your ongoing paper for grading. Please keep in mind that points will be deducted from your assignment upload if your paper is missing an assignment or required content. Therefore, if you miss an assignment, you must add it to your paper before uploading your assignment. Each assignment upload must be a complete, flowing paper. You cannot have missing project content—students who fail to successfully complete Assignments 2 and 3 risk being withdrawn from HUS4722 and HUS4945C. As you go through the course, please remember that by the last semester's due date, you must have a completed project to meet one of the program's requirements to pass HUS4722 and HUS4945C.

For this assignment, begin your Capstone Project research by completing the four (4) steps below.

Step 1: Conduct a systematic search of professional journal articles and/or research studies (review of the literature) that will help you with your Capstone Project (the problem you plan to address... identify something that is negatively impacting our community or a population). Conducting this search is your opportunity to learn how others have defined the problem, what is being done, what is working, what is not, where the needs/gaps are, etc. Doing this will help you better understand your research topic and issues. If you do not have a topic for your Capstone Project, search for something that interests you that is negatively impacting our community (use this opportunity to help you find something for your Capstone topic).

• • • Use the school's online library or any professional database to locate five (5) professional journal articles and/or research studies that are related to your Capstone problem (something that is negatively impacting our community or a population).
    • Based on your findings, create a Literature Review by stating what the author explained is happening, their study outcome, their recommendations, etc. (use an in-text citation and a minimum of 150 words for each resource summary).

Step 2: Create a Student APA Paper

1. 1. 1. Create a Student APA Cover page (follow the sample given; notice the use of words, spacing, how things are written, page number, etc.).
         • • Follow the format on the sample paper.
           • Use the title "Capstone Project Research" and the problem (be brief). Example: Capstone Project Research - At-risk Youth and Lack of Services
           • Remember to add your page number.
      2. Create your AI Statement at the bottom of your Cover Page.
         • • Update your statement when necessary to avoid issues with academic dishonesty.
      3. Create page 2: Literature Review
         • • On the first line of page 2, write the title "Literature Review" (follow the format on the sample paper to format your page 2 and summaries).
           • Write in a narrative form, using sentences and paragraphs.
           • You must use properly formatted in-text citations to summarize each article/study (tell the reader what the author explained).
           • Do not add extra spaces between your headings and paragraphs.
           • Indent at the start of each paragraph.
           • You must use Times New Roman 12 font, double-spaced.
           • You must have a minimum of 150 words for each resource summary.
      4. Create an APA references page to list your references for the in-text citations (follow the sample given).
         • • You must have at least five (5) properly formatted professional journal articles/research studies.
           • Be sure to put your references in alphabetical order.
           • You must use Times New Roman 12 font and be sure to double-space.
           • Include the URL for information that is taken from the internet.
