Sampling Methods Assignment

Objective: Provide an example of each sampling method below using a social work–relevant topic and population you choose.

1. First, choose your topic. For example:

Topic: "Food insecurity and mental health among adults receiving services at a community health center Population: Adults (18+) receiving services at the community health center"

2. Second, for each method, answer:

a) Sampling frame: What list or source would you use to find possible participants? b) Sampling units: Who or what would be selected (people, groups, sites, records, etc.)? c) Why this method: Why did you choose this method for your topic? d) How you would do it: Briefly describe the steps you would take to select the sample.

Example (you will do this for ALL six methods): Simple Random Sampling a) Sampling frame: A complete list of adult clients who had an appointment at the health center in the past 3 months. b) Sampling units: Individual adult clients. c) Why this method: It gives each client an equal chance to be selected, which helps make the sample more representative of the clinic’s clients. d) How you would do it: Number each client on the list and use a random method (like a random number generator) to pick the needed number of clients.

Write in clear, everyday language. Be specific about the population and setting (who, where).

Step 1: Choose your topic and population (do this once at the top)

  1. Topic:
  2. Population you are focusing on:
