Respond to these two post of including at least one person who chose a different subspecialty area than you did—by asking a probing question, providing additional insight, offering a new perspective, and/or challenging their assumptions in a respectful way.
Scottie:
Description of one subspecialty I selected probation and parole on a federal level. This career comes with three main responsibilities when it comes to dealing with the people who have broken the law. The very first responsibility of a federal parole officer is to set up pretrial services it’s the probation Officers job to help federal courts decide if a defendant can stay out of jail while waiting for their trial. httpsdoc.wi.gov ( N.D.) I have come to realize that this decision is not just left on the probation officer but also on the people that works for the courts a lot of different departments that help with this decision but we all have to come together to make right choice https://doc.wi.gov( N.D.)
When it comes to presentence investigations I have learned that probation Officers have to gather details about the person who have been convicted to help federal judges make fair decisions about sentencing. This process take a lot of investigation work when it comes to the probation officer, and I also believe this is not just a related issue on the Federal side but also this has to be done with the state as well choice https://doc.wi.gov( N.D.) . This is the final stage before anyone who break the law or violate there probation sentencing post-conviction supervisionOfficers supervise people who are on federal probation or who have been released from federal prison these are the steps that have to be taken upon being released or violating the rules.
The reason I chose probation in parole because I can be a big help in my community and not just my community but I can be some help to anyone that feel as though they can’t stay out of trouble. Looking forward to having the opportunity to help a lot of people everywhere with motivating people to try to make the wright decision always try to stay safe in what you are doing. Personally I feel that this field is a reward in itself because not only about helping yourself but you also helping others.
If this opportunity didn’t work out I would select law enforcement, victim specialists, or risk or loss prevention, the real reason that I have to work in law enforcement is to serve in protect in Milwaukee Wisconsin wilenet.widoj.gov (May 29,2026). The opportunity to make a difference to people's lives, keep communities safe, and reduce crime will make me proud. Finally, I want to be a police officer because of the strong team spirit helping to protect people. The next I will like to discuss is a victim specialist and what they do is as a victim specialist, I will assist people who have suffered direct or threatened physical, emotional, psychological, and/or financial harm as a result of a crime wilenet.widoj.gov (May 29,2026).The next subspecialty I selected was loss prevention on a State and local level. There primary duty is in Asset Protection as a Specialist, in surveillance and security professional responsible for preventing damage and theft, usually in a retail environment. Their duties include patrolling store aisles and monitoring customers, watching security camera footage and confronting individuals they suspect of theft or any type of violence that can happen on the grounds or on the inside of the facility.
For the last question I would select victim advocate reason being when I was younger I grew up in a house hold with two sisters in my mother I always felt as though I was the one who had to keep them safe. Because I was the only man in the house hold as I was growing up. I also feel like victim advocate would be just right for me because I was standing up for females in my family my entire life. Advocacy. (2026). As a Victim Advocate professional you is a trained professional who assists victims of crime and trauma, helping them understand their rights and the support services available to them.

Jennifer :The subspecialty in forensic psychology that most interests me is legal psychology. Legal psychology involves working within the judicial system in roles related to either civil or criminal court (Walden University, LLC, 2022). As I narrow my focus within the civil court system, I am most interested in family forensic psychology. Family forensic psychology examines family systems and dynamics (Bartol & Bartol, 2025). Professionals in this area may conduct child custody evaluations and child abuse investigations, testify as expert witnesses, and work on cases that involve both the criminal and family court systems, particularly those related to domestic violence or intimate partner violence, child abuse, and elder abuse.
This specialization is particularly meaningful to me because I have experience working in psychiatric and correctional settings, as well as in victim services. Across these settings, including while providing clinical services, I observed the significant impact of family history and traumatic experiences on individuals’ lives. These experiences strengthened my interest in family forensic psychology and my desire to make a positive impact, similar to that of my peers, by providing the family court judge with data gathered from forensic interviews, documents, observations, and case file reviews to support decisions that are in the best interest of the child or children. My hope is that, when a child is placed in an environment where they are able to flourish, there is a lower likelihood of adverse experiences, behavioral health challenges, substance use issues, and, ultimately, institutionalization.
In researching career opportunities, I reviewed California Superior Court postings for Child Custody Recommending Counselor positions. Across the postings, the duties were generally consistent and included mediation and limited-scope family court evaluations. I found that full-scope evaluations were more commonly conducted by licensed professionals in private practice. These evaluators were typically licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychological doctors, or psychiatrists. According to California Family Code sections on custody investigation and report, evaluators must be licensed and complete specialized training and experience requirements.
Another position that caught my attention was the forensic interview specialist role. USAJOBS listed a [Forensic Interview Specialist position with the Department of Homeland Security. In this role, the specialist interviews minors and adults who have been victims of crime and who may have a cognitive or developmental disability or severe trauma. The position requires either a degree in behavioral science or a related field, four years of experience, or a combination of education and experience. Overall my first choice is Child Custody Evaluator.
