Module 04 Assignment: Framing the Identified Problem/Theme
Remember, the purpose of each Module Assignment is to help you create your Capstone Project in phases. So far, you reviewed and summarized ten (10) professional journal articles and/or research studies. For this module, you will review those ten (10) resources to help you identify five (5) Themes. Keep in mind that when we look for themes, we are looking for recurring ideas, perspectives, concepts, trends, etc. For example, you may have three (3) different resources talking about gaps in services; that is a theme.
For this assignment, begin where you left off in your APA paper (do not add spaces between your work/paragraphs). Follow the four (4) Steps below.
Step 1: Identify five (5) Themes you discovered in your resources.
- Review your ten (10) resources. When you read your resources, some topics, concepts, and ideas are more likely to come up repeatedly. What were they? Identify five. Keep in mind that when we look for Themes, we are looking for recurring ideas, perspectives, concepts, trends, etc. For example, you may have three (3) different resources talking about gaps in services; that is a Theme. Remember, when at least three different resources say the same/similar thing, that is a Theme. Now, find themes in your ten (10) resources that will help you group similar ideas, trends, issues, and perspectives. For example, poverty, racism, gaps in services, funding, lack of awareness, etc.
Step 2: Add your five Themes to your paper
- Look at the sample paper to see how to format your Themes in your paper.
- To write your first Theme, create a subheading after the "Resource 10" paragraph. Do not add extra spaces or a new title. Begin by writing the word "Theme" and number it, followed by a colon, and the name you call your Theme. On the following line, create a paragraph on what is being said about the Theme with at least 200 words and in-text citations from three (3) of your ten (10) resources.
- Remember, in each Theme, you must explain what at least three (3) of your ten (10) resources are saying about that Theme.
- Go back to your ten (10) resources and repeat steps 2 and 3 to create Themes 2 - 5.
Step 3: Proofread your APA paper and ask yourself
- Did I create my AI Statement at the bottom of my Cover Page, and is the statement accurate?
- Did I follow the instructions given to me in Steps 1 and 2?
- Did I follow the APA guidelines (font, spacing, spelling, periods, commas, indentation, page number, title format, in-text citation formats, etc.)
- Do my pages look like the sample? (font, spacing, indentation, page number, title format, etc.)
- Does my in-text citation format look like the APA Quick Lookup Guide format?
- Do the format of my references page and the format of my sources look like the format given?
- Do I have the contents from Assignments 2 - 4 within my paper?
- Do I have ten (10) summarized Resources in my Literature Review section, an in-text citation in each resource, and at least 150 words in each summarized Resource?
- Do I have five (5) summarized Themes with at least three (3) in-text citations from three different sources in each Theme, and do they meet the 200 minimum word count requirements for each summarized theme?
What is my Assignment, and why am I doing it?
When you upload this assignment by the Canvas Due Date, you must have the contents of Assignments 2 - 4 within your paper to avoid a point deduction for this assignment.
- For Assignment 4, you must review your ten (10) resources to help you identify five (5) Themes.
