APPLICATION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE OPTIONS
As you begin this assignment, take a moment to stop and reflect on the difference between professional ethics and legal responsibilities. In this assignment you will discuss responsibilities in both areas, so this is a helpful starting point. You will analyze both ethical and legal responsibilities, as they apply specifically to the area of boundaries of competence and your selected position from the Unit 4 Journal.
In a 3-4 page expository paper, analyze ethical and legal responsibilities related to the position you chose for the Unit 4 Journal. This should be based on course materials, your own research, and at least one of the codes of ethics in the field of psychology, and the Legal Responsibilities supplemental reading.
Address the following to introduce and discuss your chosen position:
- Identify the position you chose for the Unit 4 Journal in your introduction, to serve as a frame of reference in the paper.
- Provide a detailed description of the clinical interactions you can expect to have with clients in this position (i.e., what specific tasks would be part of the daily work).
- Explain how this position would address treatment needs of the client. Note that this may include tasks such as referral.
Next you will analyze ethical and legal responsibilities related to the chosen position.
- Describe (do not directly quote) at least two ethical standards that:
- Are specific to the area of boundaries of competence,
- Provide direction for the chosen position.
- Be sure to discuss individual standards, not general principles, and cite the applicable code(s) of ethics.
- Analyze implications for boundaries of competence for the position based on each of the standards chosen.
- Next, analyze how legal responsibilities apply to the position, based on the supplemental reading in the course.
Based on the information gathered above, thoughtfully evaluate the following:
- How this position aligns with your goals in the field (be sure to base this on some of the details above).
- Provide a discussion of how the chosen position aligns with the scope of the field of clinical psychology. Include enough detail to show your rationale based on your understanding of the position and the scope of the field of clinical psychology.
The paper should include support from the textbook, at least one code of ethics, the Legal Responsibilitiessupplemental reading.
