Weekly Discussion Board: Research Reflection and Practice Application

Each week, you are required to complete all parts of this discussion board assignment.

For your initial post, identify three things you learned from that week's readings, lectures, class activities, or other course materials. Do not simply list the three items. For each one, explain the concept in your own words and demonstrate your understanding of what it means, why it matters, and how it connects to the course content for that week.

After explaining the three things you learned, discuss how these ideas apply to the area of social work you hope to enter. You should be specific in connecting the week's research content to your future practice interests, such as clinical social work, school social work, medical social work, child welfare, policy practice, substance use treatment, criminal justice, or another field of practice.

Requirements for Initial Post

  • Minimum of 200 words
  • Identify and explain three things you learned that week
  • Explain each concept in your own words
  • Discuss how the material applies to your intended area of social work practice

Peer Response Requirements

After posting your initial response, you must reply to at least two classmates. Your responses should be meaningful and substantive. A strong reply might do one or more of the following:

  • Build on a classmate's ideas
  • Make a connection to your own practice interests
  • Ask a thoughtful question
  • Offer another example of how the research concept applies to social work

Replies such as "I agree" or "Great post" are not sufficient.

Important Grading Note

You are expected to complete all parts of this assignment in order to receive credit.

This means you must:

  1. Submit an initial post that meets the content requirements above
  2. Write at least 200 words in your initial post
  3. Reply to at least two classmates

If you complete only part of the assignment, such as submitting only one post or failing to reply to classmates, you will not receive any credit for the discussion board
