ABA 504 Introduction to Measurement and Single
Task Description
This scheme is the methodological plan for your Final Work. You will identify an applied and original analytical-behavioral research question, justify it with a bibliographic foundation, define your variables with operational precision, select an appropriate single-case experimental design and address the ethical and philosophical dimensions of your proposed study. The objective is methodological rigor from the base - a research question that is answerable, variables that are measurable and a design whose experimental control logic you can articulate and defend.
Task Instructions
Component 1 — Investigation and Justification Question
It raises a clear, original and verifiable research question, based on the single-case research methodology and the principles of the ABA. Justify the relevance of the question: what void does it address in the literature and why does it matter for the practice or science of the ABA? Integrate at least 3 academic references (from your Mini Literature Review and additional sources) that directly motivate the question.Component 2 — Variables and Measurement Plan
Define the independent variable (VI): what will be manipulated, at what levels and through what procedures? Define the dependent variable (VD): what behavior will be measured, with a complete operational definition (inclusion and exclusion criteria), the behavioral dimension (frequency, duration, rate, etc.) and the measurement method? Describe the IOA procedures you will use: calculation method, minimum frequency of IOA verifications and minimum acceptable threshold.Component 3 — Experimental Design
Identify and justify the chosen single case design (reversion/ABAB, multiple baseline, multi-element/alternating treatments or changing criteria). Explain the logic of the experimental control of your design: how will the design prove that the VI - and not some other variable - caused the observed behavioral change? Identify at least one potential threat to internal validity in your proposed study and describe a safeguard.Component 4 — Ethical and Philosophical Integration
Identify at least two relevant ethical considerations for your proposed study (for example, IRB requirements, informed consent, safety during the baseline, less restrictive intervention). Connect your proposal with at least two philosophical assumptions of behavioral science (determinism, empiricism, parsimony, selectionism, pragmatism) and explain how each one shapes your research design decisions6 pages, double space, Arial 12 pt, 1 inch margins. APA 7. Section headers are required. Minimum 3 peer-reviewed sources. The cover and references are excluded from the page count.
