Assessment and Related Skills
Assessment of clients encompasses a broad range of skills and tasks. In preparation for this assignment you will investigate a range of skills and assessment tasks and explain how each would be utilized in the position you chose in the Unit 4 Journal, and a second position at a different educational level. For example, if your chosen position is an undergraduate level position, choose a graduate position for the second position, and vice versa. To prepare for the assignment, first carefully review the course materials on this topic. Then conduct your own research to deepen your understanding of how these skills and tasks are utilized in the field of clinical psychology.
Complete the Unit 7 Assignment Template to address each of the following:
For each of the following skills and tasks first explain what is involved in the skill. Next, provide examples of how/where each skill would be used in clinical practice for each of the two positions chosen as described above. Be sure to support your explanation and your examples with scholarly sources.
- Active listening
- Open/closed questions
- Intake process
- Clinical interviewing
- Testing
- Foundational components of the diagnostic process
Finally, choose one of your examples and:
- Explain how concepts of multiculturalism and diversity would apply in that example.
- Describe how a clinician could act as an agent of change for a client, by properly relating in a culturally appropriate manner.
- Describe how this action could both bridge the cultural differences, and build effective relationships.
The assignment should include support from the textbook and at least two additional scholarly sources.
