Psychology Question

Psychology Question

Students will turn in an ethnographic research reflection paper, which will be approximately 3-5 pages in length with double spaced, 12-point Calibri font. Students will be required to do one field ethnography in which they visit

a sex shop, munch, online sex class, or other related event. Find an experience that stretches your comfort zone a little bit. For example, if you worked at a sex shop for a year, visiting one is not going to stretch your comfort zone. Alternately, if you have been more sheltered or are socially anxious, visiting a sex shop maybe so outside your comfort zone that it is difficult to offer any reflection. Use your best judgement as to what experience will allow you to challenge yourself without overwhelming yourself!

Spend some time exploring your own reactions when you are there. Do you have feelings of shame? Excitement? Curiosity? Disgust? When these feelings come up, how do you manage them? What would it be like to discuss some of the toys/activities with clients (age and developmentally appropriately)? How does sex, gender, or sexuality change your attitude towards the toys/activities? This paper will be turned in as a hard copy the day of class.

Please include a brief statement at the top of your paper indicating:

“I provide informed consent for (professor’s name) to view this paper for educational and evaluation purposes. I understand that I am not required to disclose anything that I am not comfortable sharing. I have chosen to disclose only what feels appropriate for me.”

• You are encouraged to:

o reflect critically and thoughtfully

o protect your own boundaries

o share only what feels comfortable and safe

o focus on insights rather than private details
