ABA 504 Introduction to Measurement and Single-Subject Design

ABA 504 Introduction to Measurement and Single-Subject Design

Final project :Task Description

The Final Work is the culmination of ABA 504 - a comprehensive literature review and an applied research proposal that demonstrates the mastery of measurement, graphics and visual analysis, and single-case experimental design. You will synthesize the academic literature on your chosen topic, you will propose an original and methodologically solid single case study, and you will connect your proposal with the philosophical foundations of behavioral science.

Required Sections and Instructions

1. Summary (150 to 200 words)

It summarizes the research problem, the scope of the bibliographic review, the research question and the hypothesis, an overview of the design and the philosophical implications.

2. Introduction and Justification (1 to 2 pages)

Clearly define the measurement or behavioral design problem you are addressing.

Establish its relevance: why does this question matter for behavioral science and applied practice?

Finish with a clear research question and a directional hypothesis.

3. Literature Review (4 to 5 pages)

It summarizes a minimum of 8 academic sources (from Cooper et al., 2020, and peer-reviewed journals) that cover fundamental and modern studies.

Organize it thematically - not as a series of individual syntheses - to build a coherent argument.

For each main topic: explain the empirical evidence, evaluate the methodology and limitations, and connect the findings with your research question.

Identify at least one current vacuum or debate that your proposed study addresses.

4. Research Proposal (3 to 4 pages)

Research question and verifiable hypothesis: ask both with precision.

Independent variable: operational definition, levels and handling procedure.

Dependent variable: complete operational definition (inclusion/exclusion criteria), behavioral dimension, measurement method and data collection tool.

IOA plan: method (point by point, total count, interval by interval), frequency and minimum threshold acceptable with justification.

Experimental design: specifies and justifies the design; explains the logic of experimental control; describes the baseline and intervention conditions; identifies at least two threats to internal validity and their safeguards.

Participants and context: describes the proposed characteristics of the participants and the clinical or research context.

Graphing and visual analysis plan: describe how the data and visual analysis criteria that you will use to evaluate behavioral change will be displayed.

5. Philosophical Implications (1 page)

Explicitly relate your proposal to the philosophical assumptions of behavioral science: determinism, empiricism, parsimony, selectionism, pragmatism.

Explain how each applicable assumption shapes your design decisions and your interpretative framework.

6. Conclusion (0.5 to 1 page)

Summarize the key findings of literature review and their implications for your research question.

Identify at least two future research directions that would be derived from your study. Pages, double space, Arial 12 pt, 1 inch margins. APA 7. Section headers are required. reviewed sources required. The cover and references are excluded from the page count.
