Task Overview
For this activity, you are required to use a Generative AI tool (e.g. Copilot) to help you understand a
course concept that you have found challenging or confusing. You will then share your learning
experience and key insights with your study group via the SRL 4 study group forum in the Assessment
2 hub.
Step 1: Identify a Challenging Concept
Choose any one concept (e.g. Negative Reinforcement, Opponent Process Model, Pavlovian
Instrumental Transfer, Down-regulation, Desensitisation, etc.) from the course lectures or the
prescribed readings that you:
Step 2: Use GenAI Learning Strategies
Select at least one of the following GenAI learning approaches to explore your chosen concept, or
create your own approach:
Ask the AI to break down complex ideas into simple language that even a child could understand, then
gradually build up complexity.
Example prompt: "Explain [concept] as if you were talking to a 5-year-old child. Then explain it again at
a university level."
Request real-world examples and analogies to make abstract psychological concepts more concrete
and relatable.
Example prompt: "Give me 3 different real-world examples of [concept] and explain each one using
analogies that would help a psychology student understand."
Ask the AI to simulate different perspectives or create scenarios where you can practise applying the
concept.
Example prompt: "Let's role-play a scenario where I'm a therapist and you're a client showing signs of
[concept]. Help me practise identifying and responding appropriately."
Generate questions to test your comprehension and identify knowledge gaps.
Example prompt: "Create a 10-question quiz on [concept], including multiple-choice and short-answer
questions. After I answer, provide detailed explanations."
Example prompt: "Create a detailed mind map for [concept]. Include main branches, sub-branches, and
show how it connects to other psychology concepts."
Develop a personalised study strategy for mastering the concept.
Example prompt: "Create a detailed study plan for learning [concept] over the course of one week,
including specific goals, resources, and milestones."
Simulate discussions between experts with different viewpoints on the concept.
Example prompt: "Simulate a roundtable discussion with three psychology experts discussing
[concept]. Include different viewpoints and potential areas of agreement or disagreement."
Work with the AI to develop a podcast script or discussion about the concept, treating the AI as a co
host or expert guest.
Example prompt: "Let's create a 10-minute podcast episode about [concept]. You'll be the expert guest
and I'll be the host. Help me develop interview questions, then we'll have a conversation where you
explain the concept in an engaging, accessible way."
Engage with the AI as a Socratic questioning partner that challenges your understanding through
probing questions rather than just providing answers.
Example prompt: "I want to understand [concept] better. Please act as a Socratic tutor - don't just
explain it to me, but ask me questions that help me discover the answer myself. Challenge my thinking
and ask follow-up questions about my responses."
Use the AI as a study buddy that helps you set goals, track progress, and maintain motivation
throughout your learning.
Example prompt: "Act as my study accountability partner for learning [concept]. Help me break down
my learning into daily goals, check in on my progress, and motivate me when I'm struggling. Ask me to
explain what I've learnt each day."
Practise teaching the concept to the AI, because teaching others (or AI) is one of the most effective
ways to solidify understanding.
Example prompt: "I'm going to teach you about [concept] as if you know nothing about it. Please act as
an eager student, ask clarifying questions, and point out anything that seems unclear or contradictory
in my explanation."
Use the AI to create spaced repetition and retrieval practice sessions, which are effective study
techniques.
Example prompt: "Help me practise retrieving information about [concept] from memory. Quiz me on
key points, then gradually increase the difficulty. Space out the questions and integrate related topics
to test my long-term retention."
Get help creating mnemonic devices, memory aids, or other techniques to remember complex
information.Example prompt: "Help me create mental associations and mnemonic devices to remember key
information about [concept]."
Step 3: Document Your Learning Process and Reflection
Create a reflective summary that includes:
Process Documentation:
Critical Reflection:
materials/readings?
Important: Do not include the actual AI responses/outputs in your submission. Focus on documenting
your process and reflecting on the experience. Please do not upload lecture slides or material to
GenAI.
Step 4: Share Your Reflection
Post your learning reflection to the SRL 4 study group forum. You are encouraged to engage with other
group members' reflections by providing thoughtful comments about their learning processes or
asking questions about their strategies, but this is not required.
An optional response template is available underneath the SRL 4 rubric in the Assessment 2 hub. You
are welcome to copy and paste it into your forum post and complete it in your own words
