Analyze what makes one a competent psychotherapist or counselor, including understanding the “common factors” as described in the text, videos, and lecture.
Distinguish which of those qualities you embody. In your paper, of no more than three (3) pages, address the questions:
- How would you define a “competent counselor” or “competent psychotherapist”? What life experiences and/or readings have shaped this definition?
- How do you understand the common factors model? How will it inform your development as a psychotherapist or counselor?
- What personal strengths do you bring to the counseling encounter? In what ways might you need to grow yourself (the-person-of-the –counselor) to be more effective? How might you pursue such growth?
Proper APA citation of the textbooks is required. Additional research is not required.
