Overview

In Week 8, you will be presenting a mock case study to your supervising BCBA. The slides should be short phrases or sentences as bullet points to cover the evaluation of the first six months of your treatment plan. You were provided a referral behavior and assigned function by your instructor in Week 1. If you haven't already, you are encouraged to complete the ABA Services Intake Form [DOCX] to create the rest of your case study. Completing this form will help you create your presentation.

In this assignment, you will be focusing on the first part of the presentation. For Part 1, the slide deck requirements are:

  • Client Information and Referral Behavior.
  • Current Services Provided.
  • References.

Important notes:

  • No audio recording is needed for the Week 2 assignment.
  • Review the rubric and assignment instructions to ensure all required aspects are covered.
  • Use the provided Presentation Slide Template [PPTX] as a starting point.
  • Remember, you are acting as the supervisor but reporting to your supervising BCBA since you are not yet certified.

Instructions

The slides you complete will be used for your 8–15 minute presentation in Week 8. The purpose of the Week 2 submission is to get feedback on your content for the first part of the presentation.

Reminder: Your presentation should be bullet points outlining the key areas you’ll discuss. Avoid long paragraphs. Audio will be added in Week 8 to elaborate on the bullet points. Audio is NOT required for this week’s assignment.

Use the Presentation Slide Template [PPTX] to complete the assignment.

Title Slide (1 slide):

  • A title for your presentation.
  • Your name.
  • The course name and number.
  • Your instructor's name.

Client Information and Referral Behavior (1 slide):

  • Briefly describe the individual including:
    • Client code/name (to protect personal information-including citation to ethical codes).
    • Age.
    • Other pertinent information.
    • Your client is entirely fictional. You can base your client on your current job placement. For example: if you work in a K-6 school, you can select a 10-year-old and define that fictional person’s referral behavior. If you work in an adult group home, you can select a 45-year-old and define that fictional person’s referral behavior. This allows for the assignment to be more applicable to your current workplace situation. If you are not currently working in ABA, you will fabricate a client of your choosing.
  • Label and define your assigned referral behavior.
    • Referral behavior will always refer to the behavior for reduction.
    • Provide an operational definition.
      • The operational definition should fit the fictional client that you introduced.
      • Examples and non-examples do not need to be on the slide but should be included in the audio in Week 8.
  • Label the confirmed function that you were assigned.
  • Provide the social significance of changing the referral behavior and cite at least one scholarly source to support this statement. At least one scholarly resource is REQUIRED on every slide to support your work.
  • Adhere to and cite current BACB Ethics Codes related to information provided. BACB ethical citations are REQUIRED on every slide. Adhere to compassionate practice and cite the Capella Compassion Code [PDF] when appropriate.

Current Services Summary (1 Slide):

  • Summarize the services that are currently approved and have been in place for the duration of the time you are presenting (last six months). Please include:
    • The setting where services were provided. This can be one or multiple settings, whatever is clinically appropriate for the client you described.
    • Materials that are needed for the intervention.
    • The funding source for the services (who is paying).
    • The approved service hours for the full team.
      • How many RBT hours?
      • How many mid-level supervision hours (non-BCBA supervision).
      • How many BCBA hours?
      • How many parent training hours? And with who? (Optional.)

References (at least 1 slide):

  • Provide the APA formatted citation for all references that are cited on your slides in your presentation.

Additional Requirements

Your assignment should also meet the following requirements:

  • Written communication: Ensure that slides are free of errors and written to effectively communicate ideas and practices to your selected audience.
  • APA formatting: Use current APA format and style for the reference slide and in-text citations. Use Academic Writer for guidance in citing sources in proper APA style. See the Writing Center for more APA resources specific to your degree level.
  • Resources: Include a sufficient number of scholarly and/or professional resources to support your conclusions. You should include your course text (if necessary), behavior analytic peer-reviewed research published within the last 7 years, and the BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts.
  • Length: Your Week 8 final presentation should be approximately 15–20 slides.
    • Part 1 should be approximately 4–6 slides.

By successfully completing this assignment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 2: Communicate concepts and principles of behavior analysis, including definitions and characteristics, using the professional standards of applied behavior analysis.
    • APA Compliance, Organization, and Writing Skills: Apply APA formatting to references and graphs, organization of presentation flows well, and contains minimal grammatical or spelling errors.
  • Competency 3: Analyze techniques of behavioral measurement and data analysis to display and interpret behavioral data as it applies to the behavior analytic field.
    • Current Services, Goals, and Data Collection: Provide a bulleted list of current services including setting, materials, funding, and hours.
  • Competency 5: Apply behavioral assessment methods for the consideration and selection of targeted outcomes, interventions, and strategies.
    • Client Information and Referral Behavior: Provide a bulleted list including client code, age, other pertinent information, referral behavior definition, function of behavior, and social significance on one slide.
