Modify your research idea, hypotheses
So far you have developed your research ideas and hypotheses in different ways and discovered different ways to test them. This week let’s explore how you might use what you’ve learned about non-experimental research designs and correlational research designs.
This week, do ONE of the following:
- Modify your research idea, hypotheses, variables, sample, etc. to work with a non-experimental design, either as a non-equivalent groups design or a pre-post design.
- Modify your research idea, hypotheses, variables, sample, etc. to work with a correlational design.
- Just for this week, set aside what you’ve been developing in previous weeks and come up with a brand new study that works either as a non-experimental design or a correlational design. (You may want to take this option if the research plan you’ve been developing so far just doesn’t make any sense as a non-experimental or correlational design.)
Whichever option you choose, make sure to include the following, each under their own header/subheader:
- Your background information/purpose
- Hypotheses
- Measures: IV/DV for a non-experimental design or predictor/criterion for correlational
- Methodology: Make sure you explain what research design you are using and why
- Measures
- Participants and sample size(s)
- Procedure: exactly what will occur and how it will occur and how you will collect data
Post your initial post by Wednesday and make sure to check back regularly to respond to questions and comments. You are required to respond to posts from your professor. Throughout the week, post to at least two peers with substantive feedback, questions, or insights.
Present your work in APA style with primary and secondary source citations, as needed.
Part 2 Click on the following link and participate in one of the research studies: http://www.socialpsychology.org/expts.htm.
- Try to select a study that seems aligned to this week's focus on quasi-experimental and correlational research.
- Share with us which one you completed, your experience as a participant, and your thoughts as a researcher evaluating the experiment. What is the purpose? Why type of methodology was used? What is the validity/ reliability of this type of study? What are the limitations?
- Present your work in APA style with primary and secondary source citations, as needed.
