Introduction

In Assessment 5, you will apply what you have learned in this course by creating an academic poster similar to those that you would see presented at a professional psychology conference.

Overview

In this assessment, you will imagine that you were a co‑author of a published research study and transform that study into an academic poster that could be presented at professional psychology conference. Begin by reviewing the research articles listed below and selecting the one that interests you most. Then identify the most important elements of the article and present them in a clear, visually appealing academic poster.

Preparation

Select one of the following articles:

Instructions

  • Pretend you are one of the co‑authors of the study you selected from the list above. Your task is to create an academic research poster like those presented at professional psychology conferences. Your poster should be 48” wide and 36” tall.
  • You may use any software you prefer (e.g., PowerPoint, Publisher, Canva). When your poster is complete, save it as a PDF and submit that file.
  • You may reuse any graphs or tables from the original article; recreating them is not required. You may include any references cited in the original article. All text must be written in your own words.

Poster Templates

Basic poster templates are provided below as optional starting points.

  • Assessment 5 PowerPoint Template [PPTX].
  • Assessment 5 Publisher Template [PUB].

Citation Requirement

  • Include at least two different references.
  • You can and should use references that appear in the original article.
  • Use narrative or parenthetical citations within the poster. These will most likely appear in the background section of the poster where previous research is cited.
  • Ensure that all in-text citations correspond to a full reference entry on the References list in correct APA style. This usually appears at the lower right-hand corner of the poster.

Competencies Measured

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 1: Analyze psychological research studies using appropriate research methods terminology.
    • Analyze a research study to identify and clearly summarize all key elements, including the introduction, research question, methodology, results, and conclusions.
    • Accurately use psychological research methods terminology throughout the poster to describe the selected study.

    • Design the poster in a format consistent with professional academic conference posters, including well‑organized sections, effective use of visuals, and readable layout.
    • Demonstrate clear, coherent, and scholarly writing appropriate for an academic audience.
    • Apply correct APA Style for the minimum number of in-text citations and references.Use the resources linked below to help complete this assessment.Collapse All
