ABA 507 Behavior Change Procedures
Task Overview
This work bridges the gap between your foundational knowledge and your final Behavioral Intervention Plan. From a simulated or real-world case scenario (provided by the instructor or developed by the student with approval), you will produce a structured, professionally formatted intervention scheme that operationalizes a target behavior, selects and justifies evidence-based procedures, and demonstrates integrated ethical and cultural reasoning. This schema will become the central method section of your final BIP.
Task Assignment
Component 1 — Identification of Target Behavior and Operational Definition
Identify the target behavior (to be increased or decreased) and write a precise operational definition with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Specify the most appropriate behavioral dimension (frequency, rate, duration, latency) for the measurement and justify your choice. Briefly describe the assessment data or functional information that leads to the selection of this target behavior.Component 2 — Selection and Justification of the Intervention Procedure
Select 2-3 evidence-based behavior change procedures that are appropriate for the client's target behavior and context. For each procedure: name it, define it behaviorally, explain the mechanism by which it produces the behavior change, and cite at least one empirical source that supports its use. Explain how the selected procedures work together as a coherent intervention package, rather than as isolated techniques. Specify reinforcement programs, aid hierarchies, or contingency provisions, as appropriate.Component 3 — Data Collection System
Describe the method of data collection, the observation schedule and the recording instrument you will use. Define your success criteria and your decision rule to modify the intervention if progress is insufficient.Component 4 — Ethical and Cultural Considerations
Identify at least two ethical considerations relevant to this intervention (e.g., less restrictive alternative, informed consent, reinforcer evaluation, possible side effects). Refer to the BACB Code of Ethics. Address at least one culturally responsive practice consideration: how might the client's cultural background, family values, or community context affect the design or implementation of the intervention?
