As we age, we realize we have learned valuable lessons from others. Please share a lesson you learned from your elders (e.g., a family member, a former teacher, a mentor, etc.).
I will start...
Many of you have read the short bio I included in Module 0 and are aware that I was raised with my grandparents in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, until I was 15 years old. My grandparents had a significant influence on my life and were a primary motivator for me to pursue an education. My Papá Pacho (my grandpa) thought I would be a lawyer because I always studied and debated with people about anything I was passionate about. He would often tell me, "Karlita, esos libros te enseñan mucho, pero la educación viene de cómo tratamos y respetamos a las personas, a nuestra gente" (Karlita, books teach you a lot, but education comes from how we treat and respect people and our community). This lesson has been ingrained in me since childhood and continues to shape my interactions with others, as well as my social, personal, and professional relationships.
