Evaluating the Use of Preference Assessments
Select an empirical article from the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (one that is not assigned as a required reading in this course) that includes a preference assessment in an assessment. Identify the type of preference assessment used and, in your own words, describe the procedures. Summarize the outcomes and explain how the preference assessment informed the assessment or intervention procedures. Make a case for why this type of preference assessment was or was not the best choice for the participant(s) in the study.
Review two of your classmates’ responses, and use the following questions as a guide:
- Using Pence, St. Peter, and Tetreault’s (2012) model, how could others be trained to conduct the procedures for this preference assessment?
- Provide feedback on the evidence provided to suggest that the preference assessment identified actual reinforcers.
