UCLA Sleeping Problems in Young Adults Paper

Overview

- Your will be provided a mock scenario and a paper template to describe study 1 (a descriptive study), study 2 (correlational study), study 3 (experimental study).THESE ARE THE STUDIES: --> Study 1: Prevalence of sleep problems in college students --> Study 2: The correlation between minutes of screen time and hours of sleep, the correlation between minutes of screen time and sleep onset delay, the correlation between minutes of screen time and night waking and lastly, the correlation between minutes of screen time and feeling refreshed. --> Study 3: Whether or not melatonin interacts with diagnosis of autism (ASD) on determining sleep onset delay and whether or not pamphlet interacts with diagnosis of ASD in sleep onset delay.

- now knowing what the studies are going to be about, write an Introduction that builds a strong argument for the three studies and their three topics (sleep problems (in general) and then in college students and why, how screen time affects sleeping patterns such as hours of sleep, night waking, feeling refreshed etc, and melatonin and autism) - so the introduction should be built around these topics - Write one paragraph about why sleep problems in young adults is a socially significant problem. - Write three paragraphs summarizing each of the three empirical studies provided for you - Comment on one strength, one limitation, and one future area of research for each study Questions to include in the introduction: (all three studies revolve around sleep problems) 1. Why should people care about the topic? 2. What is the social significance of the problem (why should society care about the problem?) 3. What are the benefits of addressing the problem? 4. Why should people care the manner in which you measured or manipulated variables in this study? 5. What are the previous research studies that have investigated methods for addressing the problem? (summarize and cite at least 3 empirical questions) 6. What have you learned from these studies and what remains unknown? 8. What are the strengths and limitations of these three studies? 9. Describe two meaningful ways that you could extend the external validity of the study. Defend the conceptual meaningfulness or importance of these extensions (i.e., why should these studies be performed). 7. End the introduction with a clear purpose statement of the three studies.
