Overview
Regarding the bacteria extra credit assignment, attached is a list of 15 or so bacterial species that cause common infectious diseases. Many of these we will discuss throughout the semester. And you’ll notice some of them are repeat offenders and therefore all the more reason to start getting comfortable with them. One thing I think we can all agree upon is that in nursing undergraduate studies, very little time is spent discussing the microscopic world and how to manage its subsequent infections. All you will have to do is pick 10 of these bacteria to focus on. Fill out the 3 columns for each one that you chose, and bring a copy of the finished product on the last day of class to your in-person final exam. If you correctly identify the gram stain, the infectious syndrome(s) caused by the bacteria, and the first-line antibiotic, I will give you up to 10 points to apply to the final exam.
