Preparation

Prior to beginning work on this assignment:

Instructions

In your paper,

• Define a problem in the human services you want to research.
• Create an annotated bibliography on three scholarly research articles from the last three years from the UAGC library that are about the problem you want to research. For guidance, refer to the Writing Center’s Annotated Bibliographyresource.
• For each article, identify the theory the research is based on. If a theory is not named in the article, identify a theory that you believe applies.
  • Discuss why the theory is appropriate.
• Evaluate each article.
  • Discuss what it does well.
  • Identify what areas you think could improve.
    • For example, did the authors use a diverse sample? Do you think they used the right questions to research their subject? Would you do anything differently?
• Identify the major conclusions from the studies.
  • Are the conclusions similar or different? In what ways?
  • Is there a trend in the research?
  • What are the points that the studies agree on and disagree on?
• Discuss the gaps that still need to be investigated according to the authors.
• Based on the research articles, create a research question of something you would like to know the answer to that the research has not yet covered. For guidance, refer to the Narrowing a Topic and Developing a Research Question resource.

Formatting

The What Do We Know paper

• must be 3 to 5 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA Style as outlined in the Writing Center’s APA Formatting for Microsoft Word resource.
• must include a separate title page with the following in title case:
  • title of paper in bold font
    • Space should appear between the title and the rest of the information on the title page.
  • student’s name
  • name of institution (The University of Arizona Global Campus)
  • course name and number
  • instructor’s name
  • due date
• must utilize academic voice.
  • Review the Academic Voice resource for additional guidance.
• must include an introduction and conclusion paragraph.
  • Your introduction paragraph needs to end with a clear thesis statement that indicates the purpose of your paper.
  • For assistance on writing Introductions & Conclusions and Writing a Thesis Statement, refer to the Writing Center resources.
• must use at least 3 scholarly sources in addition to the course text.

• must document any information used from sources in APA Style as outlined in the Writing Center’s APA: Citing Within Your Paper guide.
• must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA Style as outlined in the Writing Center.
