Overview
For this assignment, you will pick apart a pseudoscience or conspiracy theory in a two-page written report using the scientific method/thought process.
You will need to:
- State the pseudoscience claim clearly so we understand what it is.
- Discuss why the claim doesn't adhere to the scientific method (maybe it's not testable, reproducible or established sciences contradict it). How does the claim violate what we understand about modern science and facts (i.e. homeopathy and chemical concentration, or flat earth and gravity, etc.)? Refer back to the article by SukharevLinks to an external site. for this!
- End with a brief summary and a description of why, in your opinion, the claim isn’t good for society.
Here is an outline you might wish to use to guide your work:
- Introduction to the topic
- Scientific critique based on facts and the scientific method
- Summary and conclusion
(Note: If you are able to find a primary or secondary source to support your findings, that's a bonus and please include it! It can be hard to find primary sources on pseudoscience because they are mostly ignored in the scientific community.)
