Establishing a Culture of Patient Safety
As a healthcare professional, it is important to understand the different resources available to evaluate healthcare facilities. No one resource is perfect, and all of the different resources have benefits and drawbacks. Being able to use the proper resource to evaluate each type of healthcare facility takes practice and a working knowledge of the resources available. In this Assessment, you will be analyzing several quality resources, then assessing the healthcare facilities in your area.

Select three items from the list above to research and analyze. Your analysis should include responses to each of these: use PDSA AND ANY TWO OF UR CHOICE.
- Summarize each tool/resource.
- What does the tool/resource measure?
- Provide an example of where each tool/resource is best used to identify, improve, or resolve a situation and explain why or how it is used.

Part 2: Hospital Analysis
- Use Leapfrog and/or Hospital Compare to search the facilities in your area or in surrounding areas.
- Compare three nearby facilities in terms of metrics.
- Select three measures to compare against each of the three hospitals (e.g., 30-day death rates, readmissions, safe medication administration, appropriate care for sepsis).
- Which facilities scored the best and which scored the worst?
- Explain what may contribute to variation among and between the facilities (e.g., populations served, typical payor sources, age of patients, low volume).
- Determine one area in which each hospital could improve.
- Recommend one action that each hospital could take to make that improvement.
- Reference at least two scholarly sources to support your responses.
