GCU Social Science Paper

Overview

The Course Capstone Project is a research and analysis project sustained throughout the course. You are expected to complete work on your Course Capstone each week and meet regularly with your learning team for peer feedback. The product of your research and analysis will be an 8- to 10-page policy statement that meets the guidelines set forth by the APHA Policy Statement Development Process Guidelines. You will choose the focus of your policy statement, conduct research to understand the issue, and support your policy statement with evidence.

Your tasks this week:

Write the following sections of your policy statement:

Expand the evidence-based strategies to address the problem (2 pages): Document which interventions and strategies are being proposed to address the public health problem.

What is the scientific evidence that the strategy is effective and efficient (cost-benefit or cost-effective) or likely to have an impact on reducing the problem?

  • What is the extent of the impact that it is likely to have? Provide at least one reference to scientific or other authoritative evidence for the effectiveness of the strategy. Remember to continue the reference numbering sequence started in the problem statement and provide the full citation in the reference section.
  • Opposing arguments/evidence (1 page): Identify opposing evidence or alternative points of view to the proposed policy statement regarding the existence and extent of the problem; the validity of the evidence; and ethical, equitable, and legal issues when appropriate.
  • Keep in mind that while you are submitting this component of your Capstone Project for assessment this week, you should not consider your work at this stage to be the final draft of these components of your proposed policy statement. You will receive feedback from your instructor, and you will need to revise these sections for the final submission of your proposed policy statement.
