REFLECTIONJOURNALASSIGNMENTINSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW This course is designed to help support your individual skill set in treating trauma and trauma responses as it ties to your worldview and counseling identity. As doctoral students, it is vital that your approach to treating clients who have suffered trauma and teaching trauma treatment modalities to other professionals reflects the current evidence base in the field of counseling. The Reflection Journal assignments are intended to help you synthesize the reading you are doing in the course in a way that offers you the freedom to explore the topics as they relate to your own personal theory of counseling and how the learning will impact your work with clients who have suffered trauma. The Reflection Journals should be written in APA formatting and include a scholarly review of what you have read that specifically is impacting your conceptualization of trauma and the treatment of trauma and trauma responses in clients.
INSTRUCTIONS After you read your texts and review your online materials for the assigned Modules: Weeks, you will write a journal entry that answers the questions posed in the Reflection Journal Template. Each Reflection Journal Assignment should be 3 to 5 pages in length o Not including title page or references section Please follow current APA format including Running Head, Title Page, Introduction, Conclusion, APA style paragraphs and writing, references, and transitions throughout. There is no specific number of citations required, but APA format should be carefully adhered to with a focus on using a reference to scholarly sources throughout. Acceptable sources for this assignment include course learning, articles or publications from traumatology experts, Christian counseling authors, biblical scholars, and other scholarly publications. Sources from outside the course should be no more than 5 years since publication. Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
REFLECTION JOURNAL TEMPLATE
Please answer the following for each Reflection Journal Assignment: (a) What 3 key ideas have you gained from the Modules: Weeks’ materials since your last Reflection Journal, and why are these ideas important? (b) What Christian worldview integration research or scholarly perspective from biblical or Christian counseling experts relate to what you have learned from the course material?
Reflection Journal 1 Modules 1 – 4: Weeks 1 – 4
As noted in the course, you do not have to read and review all 3 treatment modalities in the first 4 Modules: Weeks (Prolonged Exposure Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for Reflection Journal 1, but rather you choose the model you want to really focus on learning. This means you read that text for the treatment modality you have chosen to learn about and review the materials in the folder for that model. The other materials on the other treatment models will be supplementary for you. You might like to review those also, or wait to review them after the course, but the goal is for you to substantively develop your skills in at least 1 empirically supported model. The treatment modality you are focusing on will be the focus of your first Reflection Journal.
